Morning Art

CeeCee and PopPop stayed with the girls while Chris and I went to my cousin Christa's wedding in Sedona, AZ. Emily and Addison made some beautiful thank you artwork to send to Michigan.

While the big girls got creative, Elizabeth played in the kitchen, one of her favorite things to do these days.

Fun in the Kitchen

The moms in my twins club meet one evening a month and there's usually a speaker. This month, we had a chef from Sticky Fingers Cooking come to talk about how to get kids inspired to make healthy choices when eating, and getting them in the kitchen to help with meal preparation. One of her suggestions was having the kids take turns making the dinner salad each night, and another suggestion was having kids use a lettuce knife to practice cutting skills.

In an ideal world, I'd have my kids in the kitchen every night to help me with dinner. The girls love pulling chairs up to the island to help with whatever they can get their hands on. But in reality, 5:00 is the witching hour and all I want is a few moments to myself while I throw something together for my family to eat. This weekend, though, with Dad home and focusing his attention on Emily and Elizabeth, I invited Addie to pull up a chair and make the dinner salad. She put the lettuce, carrots, and celery in the bowl and then cut up the avocado to put on top!

She was ecstatic, thrilled, glowing. She made the salad and then beamed as she brought it over to the table and immediately began serving it up to all of us. Throughout the meal, she reminded all of us that she had made the salad, and we all had many compliments for the chef. The most exciting thing for me - she ATE her salad! And so did Emily. Success!

Grandpa Hicks' Banana Bread

Grandma Hicks gave me a cookbook when I went to college, and at one point I called my Grandpa Hicks to get his banana bread recipe because it's the best banana bread out there.

Emily and Addie have been showing a lot of interest in helping in the kitchen lately, so one slow afternoon in April, we decided to get out Grandpa's recipe and make a loaf of banana bread.

Licking a beater was always my favorite part of helping Mom bake
Elizabeth participated too, taking breaks from her catnap to peek at the action
Eating a snack while we waited for the bread to bake, Emily struck this pose all on her own.
Addie decided to copy when she saw how much I loved the pose.

When the bread came out of the oven, it was almost as sweet as these faces.

Snack Time!

You know what's lots of fun? Eating snack at our play table, and when Baby can join us, it's even more fun!

After sharing bananas with Baby, she needed a little clean up!

January Favorites

Mealtime Shenanigans

Addie had finished eating and was all cleaned up when she decided to start sneaking food off Emily's tray
This is Emily's "I just tooted!" face

Our Current Favorite Book: Knuffle Bunny

Addie often opens to this page, where Trixie is "helping" her daddy with laundry and just laughs and laughs

Kitchen Play

A new play kitchen and lots of play food and dishes brings lots of fun kitchen play to our days. Here the girls are pretending to pour water on their arms.
Emily is making a "shhhhhh" water pouring sound here
The pizza is Addie's favorite play food. You know she loves you if she serves you a slice!

Addie and Emily moved up to Big Girl Car Seats in January!

A Chilly Saturday Morning

After breakfast one Saturday, the girls begged and begged to go "side?"
Dad doesn't mind the cold, and went out with Emily to explore the yard in the morning chill
While Addie was initially very excited to take her baby for a walk outside, she quickly discovered it was pretty cold and began doubting her decision
Meanwhile, Emily was skipping merrily through the yard
Aaaand, she's ready to go back in

A Day with The Greats

Love For Baby Sister

We've been spending a lot of evening time cuddling on the couch these days, and this particular evening, Emily kept patting baby sister
