January Favorites

Mealtime Shenanigans

Addie had finished eating and was all cleaned up when she decided to start sneaking food off Emily's tray
This is Emily's "I just tooted!" face

Our Current Favorite Book: Knuffle Bunny

Addie often opens to this page, where Trixie is "helping" her daddy with laundry and just laughs and laughs

Kitchen Play

A new play kitchen and lots of play food and dishes brings lots of fun kitchen play to our days. Here the girls are pretending to pour water on their arms.
Emily is making a "shhhhhh" water pouring sound here
The pizza is Addie's favorite play food. You know she loves you if she serves you a slice!

Addie and Emily moved up to Big Girl Car Seats in January!

A Chilly Saturday Morning

After breakfast one Saturday, the girls begged and begged to go "side?"
Dad doesn't mind the cold, and went out with Emily to explore the yard in the morning chill
While Addie was initially very excited to take her baby for a walk outside, she quickly discovered it was pretty cold and began doubting her decision
Meanwhile, Emily was skipping merrily through the yard
Aaaand, she's ready to go back in

A Day with The Greats

Great Grandma reads to the girls during a visit to Windsor Gardens

Love For Baby Sister

We've been spending a lot of evening time cuddling on the couch these days, and this particular evening, Emily kept patting baby sister

Giant Rubber Ducky

Addison can be quite a little hoarder. She has a habit of picking out a couple of favorite toys at the beginning of each day, and then she carries those toys around with her all day long.

Well, at the beginning of our stay at Sue and Larry's in Michigan, Addison connected with this giant rubber ducky, and throughout our stay, it was one of her favorite playthings.

She even brought the duck with her to nap one day!

A Few of Our (Current) Favorite Things

Emily

Saying "Uh Oh!"
It started "uh uh" a few weeks ago, but has evolved, and now she's always looking for an opportunity to say it.
Playing Peek
Peekaboo used to just happen with blankets and towels, but now it's become a bit more subtle. We play peek around the corners of furniture, the edges of water bottles, the brims of hats, and, most recently, if I'm sitting down, Emily will come up behind me, put her hands on my shoulders, and play peek around my shoulders.
Anything WATER
Bathtime, so much fun. Pooltime, even better! Splashing in the yard, drinking from the sprinkler, turning on the faucet on Mom and Dad's big tub...all of these things make for a great time.
Meeting new people
After being in a crowd, Emily is all revved up. This is one little extravert. It takes her some time to warm up to a situation, but once she's comfortable, she is quite the little ham!
Mirrors
Speaking of hamming it up, she loves to watch herself ham it up!
Little People
The dump truck is fun, the school bus is amazing.
Putting things in and taking things out
Got something small and something you can put it into? This girl will want to play!

Addison

Ears
Her left ear is preferred, as she loves to tug it while sucking her right thumb. But someone else's ear (even a baby doll's ear) will surely get some lovin' too.
Dress Up
Give this girl a hat and a purse, and she'll walk laps around the house with a huge grin on her face!
Babies
Baby dolls are truly a favorite for Addison, and real live babies? Well, these will bring sheer giggles. She laughs when she sees Annalea's face in her picture book, and yesterday little Annalea was treated to some Addie snuggles and real kisses (not like the bite kisses she gives Mama!)
Chase
"I'm gonna get you!" sends her into the race with squeals of delight.
Velcro
Whoever invented this stuff, genious! The noise, the ripping, it's amazing!

And things that both these girls can't do without?
Being outside, big kids, and cottage cheese

Snacktime

Snacktime happens twice a day, once after morning nap and once after afternoon nap. Sometimes our snacks are quick, small, and served on the floor, and sometimes they're big, messy, and served in high chairs. It just depends on how hungry the girls wake up, and how close to lunch or dinner it is.

Right now, Emily loves mini peanut butter sandwich crackers, and Addie loves goldfish. Neither of them will ever turn down a graham cracker, and grapes are almost always a hit (but Addie will eat more of them). They get their straw water cups at snack. Emily can suck that water down like there's no tomorrow, and will often need a refill. Addie's better about drinking milk at meals, so doesn't seem as thirsty at snacktime.

Lately, we've been having our snacks out in the front yard, where we can people watch and sit in the shade. Both girls LOVE when the kids across the street come outside, because big kids are the best. It's also a wonderful treat when someone walks by with a dog, or our neighbor's dog, Louie, comes outside.

Emily is mastering the art of fast crawling

One of Addison's favorite things to do these days: pull stuff over her head (oh and shaking shakers is pretty fun too!)
